A Career in Psychological Managment of Pain

Dr. Burte holds a Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University and a Post-doctoral Master’s in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Nova Southeastern University.

 

He has been in private practice for over forty years. He was consultation liaison in the pediatric oncology department at North Shore University/LIJ Hospital System on Long Island. Currently, he is on staff at Baptist Health-Boca Regional Hospital, and works closely with physicians in many hospitals throughout Florida.

 

Dr. Burte brings extensive knowledge of assessment of suitability for surgical interventions such as spinal cord stimulators, peripheral nerve stimulators, deep-brain stimulators, Intracept procedures, spinal surgery, bariatric surgeries such as gastric sleeve and bypass procedures as well as chronic pain and opioid risks. He has worked as a consultant to the Psychological Evaluation Initiative for Pain and Targeted Drug Delivery and Spinal Cord Stimulation.

 

Along with being a national and international lecturer and keynote speaker, he has authored articles and book chapters on chronic pain, hypnosis, psychotherapy and psychoneuroimmunology in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, medical disorders, emotional difficulties, sports performance issues, and sexual dysfunctions. He was a recipient of the Continuing Education Excellence Award in pain management from the American Academy of Pain Management from the 2001 - 2013

 

He was an Adjunct Professor and Clinic Site Supervisor of Interns at Long Island University and C.W. Post University, Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University, and Adjunct Associate Professor and Member of the Curriculum Planning Committee, Division of Clinical Sciences at New York Chiropractic College, Brookville, NY.

In his career he has served as a board member and served on the Education Planning Committee for the American Academy of Pain Management. He has served as President of the New York Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Director of the Long Island Institute of Ericksonian Hypnosis and later the Director of the Milton H. Erickson Institute of South Florida. He was a member of the editorial board for Time Life Medical, Stress and Anxiety video with Everet Coop, former surgeon general of the United States.
